After 25 consecutive weeks of library virtual movie discussions, we're going to slow things down a bit, but not too much! We'll continue our movie discussions, but also add some special events, only some of which are featured below. (For more news, keep an eye on the Facebook page for the Anne Arundel County Public Library.)
First up, I'm delighted to announce that our first special program will be an examination of the restoration, preservation, and distribution of movies during the pandemic with none other than the host of TCM's Noir Alley, Eddie Muller. As founder and president of the Film Noir Foundation, Muller has first-hand knowledge and tons of ground-level experience in these areas. If you'd like to join us, you can find more information here
Movie theaters have already begun to open in several areas across the country, but is this a good idea? Even if it is, what does the future hold for movie theaters and movie-going as the pandemic  continues? Todd Hitchcock, Director of Programming at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD, will join us for a discussion of these and other topics. Find out more about this event
Can't get enough of books about movies? Neither can we! That's why we've invited Raquel Stecher to join us for a discussion of the best movie books of 2020. Raquel certainly knows both movies and books, which is clearly evident when you peruse her blog Out of the Past: A Classic Film Blog. Not only does Raquel write about classic films and books, she also hosts an annual Summer Reading Challenge, in which readers of her blog (including me) can read and review classic film books. To find out more about our Best Movie Books of 2020 program featuring Raquel, please visit this page
And there's much more on the way. Stay tuned!
My friend Carl over at The Movie Palace podcast is having a "Summer of Psycho" series, just the thing to get you out of the shower and listening to a wide range of guests and topics having to do with the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece. My contribution, which covers the behind-the-scenes aspects of the film, is available now. In the meantime, please listen to the other episodes
