It’s that time again... We’re still a few weeks away from 2020, but this is the point when I start reflecting on the movies (and TV shows) I’ve seen during the past year. One of the best parts of this process is reading about the movie experiences of others, so I’m very eager to hear about your discoveries in 2019, whether they’re movies from this year or any other. I hope that by sharing mine, you’ll also share yours. The film community is vibrant, whether online or in person, and it is my wish that a sense of sharing will become an important part of that experience.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing movies I watched and rewatched, books about movies, movie experiences, podcasts about movies, and more. Again, please share your stories as well.
I made several movie resolutions for 2019. Pretty soon, we’ll see how I did. I’m eager to hear how your resolutions went, not to judge, but rather in a way of discovery. Did you see more movies in theaters this year? Attend a new festival? Discover a new favorite actor, director, genre? Rediscover an old favorite?
I can tell you that I have seen far fewer movies in 2019 than I did in 2018. I saw 404 films in 2018, but this year I’m on target to see just over 300. I’ll tell you why in an upcoming post and also why I don't regret that lower number.
